The Discourse of Silence
Mónica Fernández, May 22, 1978, Torreón Coahuila, Mexico. She ventured into art lyrically from a young age, being self-taught, and made it a part of her life.
Driven by a desire to express herself more fully, she began her professional career at the Lorenzo de Medici Academy in Florence, Italy, in 1999, studying oil painting, India ink, mixed media, life drawing, and watercolor. Florence provided Mónica with the space and opportunity to explore her own feelings, allowing her to address the themes that trouble and fascinate her. Thus, far from seeking complacency, the artist invites us to look closely so that we may hear the cries, the breaths, and the voices of her characters, who speak to us of humanity as finite, insecure, egocentric beings, burdened by anxieties, fears, and loneliness. Her talent lies in her ability to touch upon each emotion and draw us into a complex, surreal world.
He continued his studies in 2002 and 2003 in San Miguel de Allende at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the Allende Institute, with courses in sculpture, engraving, batik and oil painting.
His work has been exhibited individually and in group exhibitions nationally and internationally in cities such as Torreón, Saltillo, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Mexico City, San Antonio Tx, New York, to name a few.
From 2019 onwards, his participation and presence in international exhibitions intensified, such as in the United States (Miami Art Basel), Italy (Florence International Biennial of Contemporary Art) and Spain.
In 2023, she decided to explore new means to make her works an immersive experience with the traveling exhibition 'Wild Flowers', which was inaugurated in her hometown and was taken to the city of Monterrey, NL, continuing its tour within the country.
